Rev. John T. Allen, age 91, of Frankford passed away August 8, 2009, at the Pike County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held10:00 am, August 11th, at the Curryville Baptist Church, with Rev. Jerry Gamm officiating. Burial will be in the Spencerburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 pm on Monday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
He was born February 17, 1918 in rural New London, the son of Charlie E. and Edith Miller Allen. He married Zona Mildred (Millie) Bohon, May 15, 1940 at the Antioch Baptist Church, she preceded him in death March 18, 2001. Survivors include sons John O. Allen and wife Sandra of Bowling Green, Marion L. Allen and wife Sherry of Vandalia, Kenneth E. Allen and wife Rebecca of Louisiana; daughter Alma Benn and husband Harry of Frankford; brother Charlie E. Allen and wife Joan of Sun City, AZ; sister Anne Edmondson of Sun City, CA; 14 grandchildren’ 29 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son Charles W. Allen; brothers Joe Pults, Russel E. Allen; sister Mary Margaret Russell.
John grew up in Ralls County where he went to grade school at the Flint Hill School. He graduated from Hannibal High School. He moved to Pike Co. and bought a farm in 1940, where he resided until 1953 when he attended the Baptist Bible College in Springfield. Upon graduation he returned to Pike Co. in 1956 where he resided until his passing. He was pastor of Gazette Baptist Church for 30 years, all while farming and selling Dekalb seed corn. He was Southern Baptist by faith and was a member of Curryville Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons Richard Allen, Troy Allen, Chris Allen, Paul Allen, C.T. Allen and James Allen.
Memorial may be made to the Curryville Baptist Church.
