Elmer C. Baker

Elmer C. Baker 89 of Louisiana and formerly of Frankford passed away Sunday October 21, 2007 at the Moore Pike Nursing Home in Bowling Green.  Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev.  Marion Meier officiating.  Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Frankford with military graveside services by VFW Post # 5553.  Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. 

He was born November 7, 1917 in St. Louis, the son of Vernie and Edith Cora Jones Baker.  Survivors include two brothers George Baker of Frankford, Jim Baker of Louisiana; one sister Evelyn Houchins of Mason City, Ill. and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by 5 brothers John, Raymond, Harvey, Virgil (Peanuts), Jess and two sisters Mildred in infancy and Goldie Hubert. 

Elmer lived most of his live in Frankford and Louisiana where he worked as a general farmhand.  He served in the Army during WWII in the 1346 Engineer Combat Battalion from August 27, 1942 – February 15, 1946 as a demolition specialist and an expert rifleman.  He was a member of American Legion Post # 370 in Louisiana, VFW Post # 5553, and DAV Disabled American Veterans.  He enjoyed playing cards, country music and family.

Memorials may be made to Pike County Hospice. 

Serving as pallbearers will be Roy Baker, Joshua Baker, Earl Houchins, Raymond Baker, Danny Hubert and Brian Worthington.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Baker, Harvey Baker, Jr., Eddie Houchins, Wayne Baker, Lloyd (Jr.) Hubert, Justin Worthington, Mark Weiser and Joey Weiser.
