Robert (Bob) L. Bell Sr. age 79 of Quincy, Ill., formerly of Bowling Green passed away Monday December 24, 2007 in Quincy, Ill.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday December 29, 2007 at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev. Robert Lee Bell Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Curryville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He was born July 8, 1928 in Louisville, the son of Albert Lee and Letha Shepherd Bell. After the passing of his mother at an early age, he was raised by his father and stepmother Nora Chatman Bell. He married Ruby Kathleen Hobbs in 1959 in Bowling Green. She preceded him in death in July 1997.
Survivors include three sons Nathaniel Florence of Bowling Green, Robert Lee Bell Jr. and wife Shelia of Quincy, Ill., Gary Lee Bell and wife Lisa of Columbia; six daughters Tonya Hendrix of Bowling Green, Marcia Hammers of Mexico, Carolyn White and husband James of Quincy, Ill, Jane Nalley and husband Dareyl of Bowling Green, Stephanie Hall and husband Jack of Quincy, Ill., Ebony Bell of Quincy, Ill.; 27 grandchildren and 26 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four children Ronnie Florence, Marcile McQuay, Lorraine Bell, Carol Bell; two grandchildren Latrail Bell and Javion Hammers; two brothers Ross and Ivory Clinton Bell and one sister Agnes Bell.
Mr. Bell grew up in the Louisville and Bowling Green area where he lived all his life with the exception of the past 20 years he lived in Hannibal. When his health began to decline, he moved in with his daughter in Quincy where he has lived for the past year.
He was employed as a truck driver for Hugh Jamieson Truck Line, Strowold Farms and then retired from Bleigh Construction after 50 years of service. Mr. Bell enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jay White, Larry Hendrix, Jairus Bell, Oliver Hutt, Robbie Bell, Marcus Richardson and Michael Blair. Honorary Pallbearers will be Matthew White, Albert Lawson, Allen Epperson, Eddie Linear, Gordon Cohea and Kenny Dornberger.
Memorials may be made to the Pike County Hospice.
