Norman R. Damron age 84 of Vandalia formerly of Bowling Green passed away unexpectedly Wednesday March 25, 2009 near his home in rural Vandalia. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 28 at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green. Military Rites will be conducted by VFW Post 5553.
He was born September 21, 1924 in Annada, the son of Meriweather and Vesta Davis Damron. On February 16, 1946 he married Verna Mae Koester, she survives of the home. Also surviving are two sons Richard Damron and wife Pam of Evanston, WY, Darrell Damron of rural Vandalia; one daughter Debi Davenport also of rural Vandalia; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers Melville Damron and wife Lois of Lubbock, TX, Garrett Damron and wife Ethel of Bartlesville, OK; one sister Ara Ogden of Vandalia and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Lillian Eddy and one brother Davis Damron.
Mr. Damron served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 when he was honorably discharged after being awarded three Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. He then began working for Amoco Pipeline Company for 42 years until his retirement in 1989 at which time he moved to Bowling Green. He most recently moved to the Vandalia area. Mr. Damron was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors and taking leisurely drives through the country and spending time with his family. Norman had a wonderful sense of humor and was a very giving man. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.
