Jerry A. “Jake” Derr age 74 of Bowling Green passed away Saturday January 9, 2010 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev. Bill (Red) Haffner officiating. Burial will be in the Troy City Cemetery with Military Graveside services being conducted. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He was born June 29, 1935 in Cuba, the son of James Andrew and Lurabelle Hollandsworth Derr. On May 30, 1956 in Tunica, MS, he married Angeline Galati. She survives. Also surviving are two sons Raymond Derr and wife Cynthia of St. Charles, Mark Derr and wife Dorothy of Troy; two daughters Janette Wagner and fiancée Kenny Creech of Bowling Green, Lisa Broyles and husband Steve of Troy; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers William Derr and wife Arma of Festus, Jack Derr and wife Karon of Warrenton and one sister Glenda Gaugh of Moscow Mills. He was preceded in death by one son David Derr; his parents; one brother James Derr; two sisters Joan Upton and June Upton and his father-in-law August Galati.
Mr. Derr had lived in St. Charles where he worked at the St. Charles Quarry for 15 years before moving to Troy, Montgomery City and then to Bowling Green. He was a Korean War Veteran where he served in the United States Air Force. He was a police officer for Bridgeton Terrace. He loved driving trucks of all kinds. He enjoyed being around children and volunteered for Head Start – Early Head Start. He was very proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also loved his dogs.
Serving as pallbearers will be William Wagner, Travis Wagner, Jeremy Broyles, Brian Broyles, David Derr and Jerry Derr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Brockman, Jerry Brockman, Andy Unnerstall and R. J. Arnold.
