James Richard (Dick) Fanning

James Richard (Dick) Fanning age 66 of Bowling Green passed away Friday September 11, 2009 at his home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev. Jerry Gamm officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Bowling Green with military rites by VFW Post #5553.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

He was born August 12, 1943 in Louisiana, the son of James Melvin and Mildred Lucille Crow Fanning.  He married Jane Ann Hudson on June 21, 1964 in Vandalia.  She survives.  Also surviving are four children Rhonda Roberts and husband Mark of Springfield, Kirsten Haden and husband Corey of Frankford, Darrin Fanning and wife Lori of Columbia and Suzie Weber and husband Rich of Mexico; eight grandchildren Austin and Hannah Roberts, Brett, Grace and Logan Haden and Andy, Abbie and Carter Weber; three cousins Helen Preiss, Lesley Dowell and Sherry Robinson.

Mr. Fanning was employed for the United States Postal Service for 35 years, retiring in October 1998.  He served in the United States Army from 1967 – 1969.  He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #5553 and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.  He was a past member of the Jaycees and Lions Club. 

Pallbearers will be Larry Jackson, Harold Brewer, Larry Weable, Clayton Storch, Jerry Sitton, Doug Storts and Ed Woods.  Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Austin Roberts, Brett Haden and Andy Weber.

Memorials may be made to the Pike County Hospice Building Fund.
