Luther Lindsay Gillum of Bowling Green passed away Monday, January 18, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev. Don Amelung officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Gillum will be held Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to time of service.
Mr. Gillum was born February 8, 1921 in Ashley, the son of John Wesley and Myrtle Ann Lindsay Gillum. He married Mildred Ware on August 30, 1942 in Hannibal. Surviving are his wife, daughter Emily (Wendell) Holman of Creve Coeur; five grandchildren Cindy (Larry) Hopke of Bowling Green, Phyllis Jarrell of Poplar Bluff, Michele (Rusty) Dorner of St. Louis, Michael Holman of Suffolk, VA, and Tom Holman of Pflugerville, TX; seven great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; sister-in-law Allie Bea Gillum of Austin, TX; and brother-in-law Harlan Shankle of Ft. Smith, AK. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Mary Sergent; grandson David Sergent; sister Nellie Mae Shankle; brothers Wm. Clark Gillum and John Smith Gillum; and sister-in-law Reba Hays Gillum.
In his early years, Mr. Gillum lived in Ashley and Louisville, then from 1935 to 1942 in Bowling Green. He then moved to the farm near Cyrene until moving back to Bowling Green in 1957. He drove trucks for Claude Turnbull, Bill Gaw, and Jennings Implement. He was a manager for LaCrosse Lumber Company for several years. He also worked at Kirks Funeral Chapel for many years, driving the ambulance and assisting as a funeral director. He enjoyed fishing, quail hunting, his hunting dos, woodworking and furniture refinishing, and attending auctions.
Serving as pallbearers will be Donald Bibb, Bill Finnerty, Michael Holman, Thomas Holman, Patrick Hopke, and Tim Kirks.
