William Jerry Grimmett

William Jerry Grimmett, age 88 of Bowling Green, left for glory during his sleep Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Country View Nursing Home. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at the White Rose Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin Davis officiating.  Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors being conducted my VFW Post # 5553.  Visitation will be held from 4 pm until 8 pm on Thursday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with a Masonic Service at 7 pm.

He was born March 17, 1921 in Bowling Green, the son of Frank and Anna Mae Maiden Grimmett.  He was married to Margaret Lorene Hendricks, she preceded him in death.  To this union they had two beautiful daughters and one son.  He is survived by one daughter, Dawn Lynn Bell of Bowling Green two grandchildren Terrance Lamar Bell and Devin Teress Lorynn Bell; niece Betty Shephard of Bowling Green; nephew Leonard Bragg; great nephew Donald Bragg and wife Michelle of North Carolina; great nieces Deneen Shephard and Kizzy Lynn Anderson; 6 step nieces and nephews.  Also left to mourn his passing are a host of friends including his White Rose Baptist Church family.   He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 siblings, son Kenneth Darnell, daughter Branda Lorene, one sister Francis Frazier, great nephew Corey Shephard and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Jerry’s passion was his faith and the White Rose Baptist Church.  He was a construction worker, carpenter and painter by trade.  He worked in Clarksville on the Cement plant as a structural steel painter, five years as a residential carpenter and 12 years as a carpenter on the Clarence Cannon Dam. He also was a foreman over the high rise and the Brookstone apartments in Bowling Green.  He was active in the Army Company E 356 Engineer Regt. Jerry served during WWII with the Army Copr. of Engineers where he was awarded two bronze stars, good conduct medal, campaign ribbons for Asiatic Pacific Theater, American Theater and the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #5553. He served two years and two months in the Civilian Conservation Corp. (CCC) in Cuba, MO. He was a was a worshipful master of Corinthian-Braxton Lodge No. 5 in Hannibal, then Arthur Florence Lodge No.184 for over 40 years and served as Jr. Warden.  He also served as worthy patron for Eureka Chapter No. 28.  He was a member of the order of the Eastern Star in Hannibal, MO.  He was the sublime prince of the Royal Serret, 32 degree of Queen City Consistory Number 109.  Ancient Accepted Scottish Rights located in Jefferson City, MO.  He enjoyed hunting, and was on bowling leagues in Louisiana and in Vandalia.  He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. 

Serving as pallbearers will be Donnie Hendricks, Gary Bell, Ralph Reynolds, Ronald Thomas, Donnie Bell and Rick Pickett.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Robbie Scott, Avery Rogers, Terrance Bell, Devin Bell, Larry Hendricks and Albert Lawson. 

Memorial may be made to the donor’s choice.
