Kenny A. Grote age 73 of New Hartford passed away Saturday April 25, 2009 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Clement Catholic Church with Fr. Wayne Boyer officiating. Burial will be in the St. Clement Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post #5553. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
He was born July 28, 1935 in Bowling Green, the son of Max Herman Grote and Irene Gesena Wendel Grote Orf. On May 21, 1960 at St. Clement Catholic Church, he married Wanda Strickland. She survives. Also surviving are three sons Gregory Grote of Indianapolis, IN., Douglas A. Grote and special friend Terri Benedetto of New Hartford, Timothy Grote of New Hartford; one daughter Victoria Pritchett and husband Steve of New Hartford; four grandchildren Jason Pritchett and wife Rebekah, Jordan Pritchett, Dylan Grote and Kurt Grote; two great grandchildren Kalvary Pritchett and Kyle Pritchett; also Kellen Kieffer, Kale Kieffer and Kylie Kieffer; one brother Richard Grote and wife Joan of Bowling Green; two sisters Evelyn Hopke of New Hartford, Maxine Grote and husband Carroll of Bowling Green; three stepbrothers LeRoy Orf and wife Janet of Bowling Green, David Orf and wife Barbara of TX., Mel Orf and wife Robie of Bowling Green; seven stepsisters Margie Vogel and husband Leroy, Rita Miller and husband Robert, Donna Colbert and husband Michael, Sue Bowen and husband Dale, Jane Ogden and husband Ronnie, Jan Caldwell and husband Bill and Sherry Grote and husband Michael all of Bowling Green and two sisters-in-law Mary Parson of Palmyra and Ernestine Wilson of St. Peters. He was preceded in death by an infant son Mark Alan Grote, his parents and his step-father Louis Orf.
Mr. Grote lived most of his life in the New Hartford area where he was a grain and livestock farmer, receiving Pike County Farm Management Award in December 1985. He served in the United States Army from April 1955 to April 1957. He enjoyed deer and quail hunting. He was a member of the St. Clement Catholic Church.
Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews James Hopke, Paul Hopke, Charles Hopke, Leonard Hopke, Joe Grote, Tony Grote and Gary Grote. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jason Pritchett, Jordan Pritchett, Dylan Grote, Kurt Grote, Steve Parsons and Kevin Parsons.
Memorials may be made to Pike County Hospice or to the St. Clement Cemetery Association.
