Evalyn Elizabeth Johnson

Evalyn Elizabeth Johnson, age 90 of Bowling Green passed away December 10, 2008 at the Country View Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, at the Second Baptist Church in Bowling Green, with Rev. Don Amelung officiating.  Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Bowling Green.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.

            She was born March 23, 1918 in Pike County, the daughter of Roy Marvin and Rilla Bowen Shy.  She married James Johnson on October 23, 1937 in Mexico, MO.  He preceded her in death on June 15, 1979.  Survivors include three daughters Doris Akers and husband Billy Guy of Whiteside, Willa Reid and husband Buck of Eolia, and Jo Ann Gibbany and husband Jim of Albany; one foster daughter Eva Rogers and husband Bill of Wichita, KS; three grandchildren Bill Akers Jr., Melissa Luttrull and Dale Reid, two foster grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one brother J.B. Shy.

            She was born, raised, and worked in the Bowling Green area all of her life.  She was a member of the Second Baptist Church where she was very active teaching young children, helping with VBS and a member of the choir.  She was also very active in the Salt River Baptist Association where she served as clerk for many years.  She worked as a seamstress at the Bowling Green garment factory through several different companies, where she ended her career as a supervisor.  She then worked for Modern Cleaners on the Bowling Green square for many years before retiring.  She enjoyed sewing and crocheting. 

Memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion Cemetery or the Second Baptist Church.
