Irvine L. Kerr Jr.

Irvine L. Kerr Jr., age 78 of Curryville, passed away Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 1 at the Curryville Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Gamm officiating.  Burial will be in the Curryville Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.

He was born September 16, 1929, in New Hartford, the son of Irvine L. Sr. and Nonnie L Moore Kerr.  He married Betty S. Barton at the Second Baptist Church in Bowling Green on June 30, 1953.  She survives.  Other survivors include son, Leroy Kerr of Bowling Green; daughter Susan Orf and husband Russell of Bowling Green; sister Joann Robinson and husband Ralph of Quincy, IL;  four grandchildren and several cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother George Irvine and sister Leona Mae, both whom passed away as infants. 

He was born, raised and spent most of his adult life in the Pike County area.  He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves.  He was a Baptist by faith and was a member of the Curryville Baptist Church.  He was the Mayor of Curryville as well as a city alderman.  He was a member of the IOOF lodge as well as a board member of the Clarence Cannon Commission.  He worked for Western Auto in Bowling Green for 41 years as a repairman.  He faithfully served his church and his community.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bud Jones, Robert Brown, Dustin Kerr, Bob Robinson, Russell Orf and Dale Pilliard.  Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Nelson, Charlie Love, Nathan Orf, Lacey Kerr, Brittany Orf, Charles Hopke, Danny Lewis, Chub Dameron, Jim Robinson, and Hershel Talley.

Memorial may be made to the Curryville Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.
