Funeral services for Gene Milton Long, 68, of Bowling Green will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at the Church of the Nazarene in Bowling Green with the Rev. Robert Warren officiating. Burial will be in Bowling Green Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8 p.m., at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
Mr. Long died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009 at his home.
Mr. Long was born April 3, 1941 in New Hartford, the son of the late Edmond S. and Viola Long. He married Nina Holland Hunt on Nov. 19, 1977 at the Christian Church in Bowling Green. She survives.
Other survivors include Jeff Hunt of Frankford, Othie Hunt, Bowling Green, Dawn Standridge and husband, Richie of Caseyville, Ill., Michelle Himmelberg and husband, Ray of Phoenix, Ariz., Scott Hunt and wife, Lauren, Bowling Green, Hope Smith, Louisiana, Troy Hunt and wife, Kelly, Bowling Green; one brother, Jerry Long and wife, Lavena of Louisville; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Long; and one sister, Judy Long.
Mr. Long grew up in Louisville and attended Silex School. He served as a member of the United States Marine Corps for four years. He was a police sergeant for the Hazelwood Police Department for five years. Gene then retired from Dundee (Holcim) after 30 years of employment.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bob Cashman, Bill Sisson, Ron Litteken, Doug Sisco, Les Kelch, Harold Schmidt, Bo Ringhausen and Chuck Blackburn. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Gamm, Jim Cooper, Brian Bruch, Cyrill Heintzelman, Dick Watson, David Adkison, Marion Duff and Rod Highfill.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pike County Home Health and Hospice in Bowling Green.
