Elizabeth Reading McCune

Elizabeth Reading McCune, 96, of Curryville, died Wednesday March 21, 2007 at Country View Nursing Facility in Bowling Green, MO.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday March 24, 2007 at the Curryville Presbyterian Church.  The Rev. Mike Lewton will officiate with the Rev. Jim Williams assisting.  Fay Miller will be the pianist, accompanying the granddaughters, Beth McCune Whitaker, Victoria McCune Grove, Robin McCune and Dawne Trokey, who will sing.  Burial will be at the Curryville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.

Mrs. McCune was born January 8, 1911 in Curryville, to George W. and Arbie Sutton Reading.

She was married to J. D. McCune on May 17, 1935, in Clarksville.

Survivors include one son, Tapley McCune and wife, Charlene of Bowling Green, daughter-in-law Mary Gladys McCune of Pacific; grandchildren, Beth McCune Whitaker and husband, Todd, of Terre Haute, IN., Victoria McCune Grove and husband, Jeff of Baltimore, MD., Robin McCune of Ballwin, Dawne McCune Trokey and husband Fred of Labadie, Jeff McCune and wife Kelly of Webster Groves and Meredith McCune of Bowling Green; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband J. D. McCune, one son, J. R. McCune, one granddaughter Nancy Linn McCune, one sister Nancy Reading and two brothers Nathaniel Reading and William Reading.

A sixth generation of the Reading family in Pike County, Mrs. McCune was born and raised north of Curryville, where she lived her entire life.  She attended Curryville Elementary School and two years of High School in Curryville.  She graduated from Vandalia High School, Class of 1929.  She was a graduate of Missouri Valley College in Marshall, class of 1934.  Mrs. McCune began her teaching career at the Curryville Elementary School.  She taught in White Sulphur Springs, MT and the Bowling Green R-I Elementary School.

She was a charter member of the Curryville Merry-Go-Round Extension Club, a member and Past Regent of the Bowling Green Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, member and Elder of the Curryville Presbyterian Church and member of  Curryville Presbyterian Women.

She received the Evelyn Bedell Older Adult Award from Missouri Union Presbytery.  She was presented with an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women PCUSA by the Curryville Presbyterian Church Women.

Her dignity, smile and beautiful characteristics will always be remembered by her family and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Curryville Presbyterian Church, Bowling Green Chapter DAR or Mt. Air Presbyterian Church and Cemetery Association.

Pallbearers will be John Waddell, Bill Waddell, Wayne Morris, Roy Dietle, Jim Rose and Jeff Miller.  Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Hill, Sean Morris, Danny Lewis, Glen Alan Bailey, Harold Rutherford, Marvin Colbert and David Waddell.
