George Willard McCurdy age 92 of Vandalia passed away Sunday June 7, 2009 at the Monroe City Manor.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Southside Baptist Church in Vandalia with Rev. Marvin Jones officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery near Vandalia with military graveside honors.  Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.

He was born May 18, 1917 in Vandalia, the son of Charles Buck and Iva May Dowell McCurdy.  On April 24, 1940 in Bowling Green, he married Nellie Hickson.  She survives.  He was drafted into the United States Army Air Force where he was stationed in Riverside CA., then stationed in Hawaii from December 1943 until January 1946.  Following his discharge, he and his wife bought a farm Southeast of Vandalia where they lived for over 60 years.  George worked as a machine operator at the Ardco dye plant in Wellsville and was a grain, livestock and dairy farmer.  He was a member and worked for the National Farmers Organization and was a member of the VFW in Vandalia.

Survivors include two sons Raymond McCurdy and wife Lynn of Monroe City, Bobby McCurdy and wife Crystal of Vandalia; one daughter Georgie Willis and husband Kenny of Monroe City; Grandchildren David Willis of Monroe City, Amy Kleindienst and fiancée Steven Sparks of Frankford, Beth Graves and husband Matt of Bowling Green, Robin Studer and husband David of Monroe City, Alison Wagner and husband Doug of Monroe City, Katie Ingram and husband Derek of Palm Coast, FL, Samantha McCurdy and fiancée Travis Winegar of Bowling Green, Jack McCurdy of Vandalia; great grandchildren Ceira and Cole Kleindienst, Josh and Lauren Sparks, George, Cody and Hunter Wagner, Bailey Graves, Hannah Studer, Aurora Ingram and Traci Battles.  He was also survived by one brother Ed McCurdy and wife Margaret of Wellsville.

He was preceded in death by one daughter Jackie Sue McCurdy who died in infancy; four brothers Willie McCurdy, Thomas McCurdy, Merle Jack McCurdy and Charles (Joe) McCurdy and one sister Lily Grace Detienne.

Memorial may be made to the Southside Baptist Church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Grandchildren and their spouses and fiancées’.
