Thomas D. McDonald age 83 of Silex passed away Thursday January 21, 2010 at the Hannibal Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Millwood with Fr. Charles Tichacek officiating Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Millwood. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Silex.
He was born January 24, 1926 in New Hartford, the son of William Sherman and Emma Ethel Lindsay McDonald. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Royster on July 11, 1953 at St. Alphonsus. She survives. Also surviving are four sons Thomas Steven (Connie) McDonald of Silex, Tony (Lisa) McDonald of Warrenton, Melvin (Vicki) McDonald of Quincy, IL, Mark McDonald of Olathe, KS; five daughters Mary Diane Cullen of Kansas City, Barbara Erickson of Bowling Green, Theresa (Ray) Phillips of Raytown, Dorothy (Allen) Thorne of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Helen McDonald and special friend Douglas Horne of Silex; 17 grandchildren, one great grandchild; one brother Garnett (Rae Nell) McDonald of Boise, ID; three Sisters-in-law Naomi McDonald of Louisiana, Opal McDonald of Bowling Green and Mary McDonald ofStreater, IL. He was preceded in death by Grandson Samuel Phillips; Son-in-law Bill Erickson; four brothers Oscar, Virgil, William and Melvin McDonald and two sisters Ethel Short and Marie Kampmann.
Mr. McDonald was a charter member of Silex Lions Club, 3rd Degree member of the St. Alphonsus Knights of Columbus Council # 2009 and charter member of Silex Fire Department. He enjoyed playing Bingo, playing cards at the Silex Senior Center, fishing and playing his hand held Video game. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, giving his grandchildren rides in the back of his truck and spending time with his dog Nellie.
Memorials may be made to the Silex Senior Center, Silex Lions Club or Donors Choice.
The Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
