Virginia (Ginny) Catlett Smith age 84 of Louisiana, passed away Sunday April 11, 2010 at the Pike County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday April 14, 2010 at the Grassy Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Alvin Young and Rev. Brook Kurth officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Grassy Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 pm on Tuesday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
She was born May 29, 1925, the daughter of Lewis and Marjorie Clinging Winner. She married John Catlett in Louisiana on July 5, 1946, he preceded her in death on February 14, 1967. She later married Linden Smith on July 25, 1968 in Louisiana and they enjoyed more than 40 years of marriage. Linden survives. Other survivors include two daughters Debbie Schindler of Louisiana, Brenda Norris and husband Charles of Holts Summit; son Larry Catlett and wife Debbie of Hannibal; sisters Willene Edwards and husband Billy Guy, Darlene Epperson of Louisiana; grandchildren Margee Tucker and husband Shawn of Hannibal, Jenni Welch and husband Joey of Hannibal, Sonny Catlett and wife Lesley of Kansas City, Jeff Ayers of Louisiana, Angie Anderson and husband Steve of Hannibal, David Norris and wife Diana of Jefferson City, Sherry Ridenhour and husband Matt of Jefferson City; great-grand children Amber Wisdom, Jamie Bradley, Rachel Bradley, Madison Tucker, Alex, Payton, Sophie and Lily Welch, Lawson Catlett, Shalimar Norris, Ethan and Sabrina Ridenhour; great-great grandchildren Patience and Trenton Wisdom, Jaden and Mason Hauser. She was preceded in death by daughter Linda Ayers, son-in law Louis Schindler, brother-in law Jim (Buddy) Epperson.
She was a Baptist by faith and a lifetime member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church. She loved her family and God and she often said that Jesus was her friend. She worked as a seamstress, working for Bobbi Brooks garment Industry for many years. She also was a house parent for Ruth Jensen Village. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, yard work and reading. She was known for her great sense of humor and passed that on to her family.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Joey Welch, Shawn Tucker, Sonny Catlett, David Norris. Nephews, Jerry Reed, Bobby Reed and Mike Lawson.
Memorials may be made to the Grassy Creek Baptist Church.
